The Bonaire Chamber of Commerce will implement the new Standard Industrial Classification (SBI 2025) in October.

Effective October 1, 2025, the Bonaire Chamber of Commerce will implement the new Standard Industrial Classification (SBI 2025). This will replace the current SBI 2008 and will affect the registration of companies in the Commercial Register.
Main changes
- Existing SBI codes will be merged, subdivided, or rearranged;
- All codes will now consist of five digits, which will more specifically record business activities;
- The Chamber of Commerce will automatically update the SBI codes for all existing businesses. Businesses do not need to take any action themselves.
Why a new SBI?
The SBI code (Standard Industrial Classification) is updated approximately every 15 years by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) to reflect economic and technological developments, new forms of entrepreneurship, and the international comparability of data.
Why is a correct SBI code important? – SBI codes are used for statistics, industry classifications, and sometimes also for subsidies, permits, banks, or insurance. An incorrect code can therefore impact your business.
What does this mean for businesses?
Automatic update of your SBI code:
- The Chamber of Commerce (KvK) will ensure that your SBI code is updated automatically. You do not need to do anything yourself.
- After the automatic update of the new SBI codes, you will be notified by email.
What should you do as an entrepreneur?
Check your business activities:
- It is important that your business activities are correct in the Trade Register. The correct description ensures that you receive the correct SBI code.
- Have your activities changed? Then make sure you update this in the Trade Register. You can easily do this yourself through the Chamber of Commerce.
