Insightful and valuable information session: “Understanding and using the CPI in practice”
On Monday, June 8, 2026, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) Caribbean Netherlands, in collaboration with the Bonaire Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KvK Bonaire), hosted an insightful and valuable information session themed “Understanding and using the CPI in practice.” The meeting was enthusiastically received by the participants.
During the information session, participants gained insight into how the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is determined, how to correctly interpret the available figures, and how this data can be used for policy formulation, planning, and decision-making. In an entrepreneurial climate where policy is increasingly based on data and trends, knowledge of the CPI offers entrepreneurs an important tool to better understand developments and respond to them regarding cost structure, prices, and revenue.
Furthermore, they received information on how to access this data within the CBS portal. In addition, attention was paid to other information that may be relevant for improving business operations, based on insights into population demographics, prices, well-being, and regional developments. Topics covered:
- What is the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and how is it compiled?
- How to correctly interpret and apply CPI figures within a company
- Where to find reliable CPI data
- The use of CPI data for policy, budgets, and evaluations
- Examples of applying the CPI in daily practice
- Insight into other available data and figures from CBS Caribbean Netherlands and how to use them
